eyes. Now, the only way to achieve her goal comes with high stakes for someone set on avoiding men as much as possible: Marry within the year to inherit the immense fortune of her estranged grandmother.
Amaryllis reluctantly moves in to her aunt’s Boston home and rubs shoulders with fashionable society. Despite her own misgivings, she soon finds herself quickly falling in love with the most unlikely of men—Nathan Everstone, whose family is linked to her mother’s tragic death.
However, Nathan turns out to be much more than he seems… and everything she never knew she wanted. But can she ever really trust an Everstone man?
"I have such a strong affinity for you. And only God knows why, for you're the most irritatingly self-protective young lady I've ever met."

My Thoughts
The Hesitant Heiress is written in first person. And while I prefer to switch between characters as a general rule...I LOVED IT!!! Getting to know Amaryllis on an intimate level...Knowing her thoughts, her deepest fears, her love and the conflict raging within her soul, was almost more than my poor heart could bear. Near the beginning of this book, I compared Amaryllis to Charlotte Lucas from Pride & Prejudice. Meaning she was too practical for my taste. But as I continued to read, I began to understand Amaryllis's heart. Throughout the book she seems intent upon refusing herself happiness and love because she doesn't feel worthy. She feels guilty for wrongdoings in the past. But Nathan loves her despite what she thinks of herself. And you will just have to read it for yourself to see how the story ends! Ultimately, this is a beautiful representation of the Father's love for us. There is nothing that we have done in our past, and nothing we will do in the future, that will keep Him from loving us.
Beautifully written, passionate yet CLEAN romance, and this book mentions my home state on multiple occasions. Highly recommended to all Historical Fiction lovers. I can not tell you how excited I am to continue with this series. Dawn Crandall has painted a wonderful picture of the era and I am thrilled to start The Bound Heart next!
